Baby Blog

August 9, 2009

I was determined to not let this blog become a baby blog. And I know I didn’t try that hard. But honestly? The only interesting thing about me right now is that I’m gestating a human being. And it’s really what everyone wants to hear about anyway. So this blog has evolved rapidly into all-baby, all the time. And I’m OK with that. I know my family and close friends are too. I’m sure I’ll have things to talk about once in a while that aren’t baby related. I could tell you about work and the fact that I’m researching epublishing initiatives, but that would put most of you to sleep (I love it and am excited about it, but most people would snore after about five minutes of my explaining what we’re considering–plus, if you’re not in my field, it might not make sense). I will probably write about the books I’m reading–I’m almost done with Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison. It’s the first book in the The Hollows series. Very good book but incredibly poorly proofread. Seriously, seriously bad proofreading all the way through. And it’s printed by HarperCollins, so I’m not sure what the excuse is. I’ll get into that more in a later post.

Anyway, I thought I would let you all know that I’m fully aware of the baby-ness that is this blog. And that I’m cool with it. So that’s that.

Yay, Red Wings! We won the Stanley Cup!

(Now, as many of you know, we’re not very “sporty” in our house. OK. That’s an understatement. We don’t watch “mainstream” sports [i.e. basketball, football, and baseball]. Ever. But we love our hockey. Yes, we do. We also love rugby, but that’s harder to catch on TV here in the States. I personally enjoy tennis and soccer, but I have to be in a certain mood to watch them. But Nate loves hockey, and we’ve been following the Red Wings pretty consistently since we moved to MI. If there’s a game on, it’s on the TV. And it’s a proud day for MI–we finally have something to celebrate!)

New Digs

March 26, 2008

I was going to lament the move from my four-year home over at blogger, but I see this more as a good thing–it still has that new blog smell.

Since I’ve already used WordPress for my research blog, this move has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. Seriously, took me something like a half an hour. I know none of the photos were moved from my old blog, but since I didn’t really have that many on the old one, I’m not too concerned. I’ll take the time to go through the old postings and make the necessary additions when I have the time.

I’m already liking this move. It might become more of a hassle, but for now, I’m going to revel in this newness. Enjoy!

Damn it. They draw me in and then cut me off. Now I’m going to have to stop by Borders and pick up the print copy. Too bad I love Publisher’s Weekly so much–I would get extra mad if it was a magazine I didn’t like.

It’s also too bad that each copy is about $12.00 a piece. Ouch.

February 12, 2008

Well, I’m back researching for my proposal (which is almost ready to go to my committee…yay!), which means I’m back posting to my research blog.

This also makes me impatient to transfer my blog to wordpress, but I would want to take all the archived posts with me from here, and I have no clue how to do that. I’m thinking this will take place some time this summer, when I’m squeaking in research time at 1 in the morning.

My mommy is not going to be pleased with my sleeping habits. But when I’m under deadline for two indexes, a design class (which I suck at, by the way–not terrible bad, but in comparison to the superb designer we have for Cellar Roots, it’s pretty bad), and Cellar Roots, not to mention my normal work for the JNT, this is the way it’s going to be until March 4th. That’s when our book release takes place for CR. I’m excited and happy and, to be completely honest, really ready for it to be done. Less than a month! Woohoo!

I didn’t realize it was Super Bowl Sunday yesterday. Didn’t watch a lick of it because I had people over not for the Super Bowl. No commercial-viewing, etc., though it sounds like it was a pretty pathetic commercial turn-out this year.

I’m boring but busy. When I have something interesting to write about, I’ll let you know!

I’m thinking of making a move to WordPress. I really like my research blog, but I don’t post to it much because it would mean logging in to another account. Blech. Perhaps a move, finally, after what? four years? What y’all think? Do you like where your blog is? Any experiences I should know about?

My inner, normally-hidden teenage self is showing: 4 a.m. is way too early in the morning to be awake.

On the brighter side, I’ve accomplished a great deal in the last two and a half hours–laundry, spending my year-old iTunes gift card from the bosses (why did I take so long to do that?! Ah, yes, no iPod)–….

And the silence outside is delicious.

October 3, 2007

I know I have been a bit absent from here, but I want to assure you that I’m still posting…to my research blog.

If you want to comment on my postings and questions and musings (and please do! I know some of my colleagues from BSU read this, and you all are where [or have been where] I am now, and I would love your advice!), you can find me here.

I cannot stress how much it would mean to me to have some feedback from everyone who reads here. You all know your stuff. Now I need your help!

August 8, 2007

So I’m back in MI. Nothing too exciting to report. Just stunned by the I35W collapse–happened only a couple of days after the hubby and I left MN, and I took that road every day I was at my internship, which was three days a week. Frightening, tragic, and sad. No one I know was injured or worse in the collapse, and my heart goes out to all the families affected.

Nothing really poetic or interesting to write. I just hope all is well with everyone. I should be posting more now that I’m back. There’s so much to talk about from this summer, but I’m not sure where to start. I’ll get there.
