My Favorite Songs from My Favorite Bands
March 1, 2007
Just because I can. And these songs make me happy whenever I hear them. Yup, selfish post, but you’re more than welcome to watch them, too. See? I’m being a little selfless in my selfishness…
Papa Roach- “Forever”
Taproot- “Poem”
Breaking Benjamin- “So Cold”
Three Days Grace- “Pain”
Disturbed- “I’m Alive”
Papa Roach- “What Do You Do?”
Metallica (S&M Version)- “Fuel” *Explicit Lyrics*
The American Tragedy- “Beneath Every Pearl”
The American Tragedy’s MySpace Page
I just discovered Sarah Brightman. Picked up her CD from the library because I thought I recognized her name. All I can say is “Wow.” I love her voice. She’s timeless.
The lead singer of Taproot can sing just as beautifully while moshing with the crowd. Just so you know.

The Taproot concert was amazing. Seriously freakin’ awesome. I have never been to a “real” rock concert before, and the hubby said the venue they played at is different than all of the ones he has ever been to before. It was really small (only 1750 people could fit into their main room), everyone was hard core rockers, tons of drinking and smoking (my throat hurts today as a result), a crazed mosh pit and crowd surfing (we stayed away from that, as you can imagine), and there was no seating. We stood for almost five hours straight, just to hear Taproot play after three opening bands. Taproot is just as amazing in concert as they are on CD. We really liked Dying to Know and From Satellite. Dying to Know is so small town, they don’t even have a CD out yet, but they are seriously good. Evans Blue was okay, but their sound just wasn’t our cup of tea. Check them out, though. You may like them.
I’ll post pictures as soon as we fill the entire roll and have them developed. I’m hoping that’s sooner rather than later, though doing nothing makes it tough to find reasons to take pictures. Maybe we’ll go on a tour of the area tomorrow and take lots of pictures. I’ll post those ones, too, just for fun.
A Little Bit Lighter Writing

Heavy Writing

Is it weird that I like to listen to Disturbed when I write?
I love [some] Country Music for this very reason.

They said it all so easily when I couldn’t two years ago when I left my hometown. There are still a few truths behind it for this situation, even now.
I’m Moving On
Performed by Rascal Flatts
I’ve dealt with my ghosts
And I’ve Faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I’ve found you find strength in your
Moments of weakness
For once I’m at peace with myself
I’ve been burdened with blame
Trapped in the past for too long
I’m movin’ on
I’ve lived in this place
And I know all the faces
Each one is different
But they’re always the same
They mean me no harm but it’s time that I face it
They’ll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up
Where I don’t belong
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
At last I can see
Life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there’s no guarantees
But, I’m not alone
There comes a time in everyone’s life
When all you can see are the years passing by (are the years
passing by)
And I have made up my mind
that those days are gone
I sold what I could
And packed what I couldn’t
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I’ve loved like I should
But lived like I shouldn’t
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me
Somewhere down this road
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
I’m movin’ on
A musing on Metallica
February 14, 2005
You want to know how much I love Nate?
I just ripped every single one of his Metallica CDs onto the computer so whenever he goes onto his screenname to check his e-mail, surf the web, etc., he can listen to his beloved Metallica to his heart’s content.
I had never listened to Metallica before meeting Nate, and I do enjoy a good Metallica song every now and then. I believe Nate to be one of their biggest fans. He has seen them in concert two or so times and has every one of their CDs.
Today, I had a new experience with Metallica: Metal Hair.
I knew they were an 80s heavy metal band, which basically equals long, fluffy hair for the duration of the 80s. Every time I opened one of their CDs, I would see their fluffy halos encircling their half-asleep (or perhaps half-stoned) faces. I giggled a little, and after ripping the CD, moved onto the next.
Then it occurred to me: I have been through five CDs, and they still look the same. STILL.
From 1983 to 1996, Metallica had the stereotypical really bad 80s hair. 1996. That’s thirteen years of long, slightly wavy, fluffy, insane 80s hair. Do know how much shampoo they must have gone through?! 1996 was when “Load” was released, so they may have cut it all off before then, but by the release of “Load”, they had cut their hair and started looking like real adults. And damn, did they look better. Good change, boys, definitely a good change.
Sax Player Found?! Oh, you mean me? WHAT?!?!
January 31, 2005
So Dr. Pugh came to see me again, bright and early this morning. They need a saxophone player. I came highly recommended by Dr. Konecne. They think I can do it. We’d be in Duluth for a night. I could see my mom and dad. Yay!!! Then we’re in Chicago, the Wisconsin Dells, and Minneapolis.
Really, really hard music. We leave for tour on Feb. 11. Yeah, you heard me correctly. About two weeks away. I’d be away from Nate for a whole entire week. Away from classes for a whole entire week. They need me to start practicing with them tomorrow at 2. 2pm practices=me missing poetry class. (Ok, so maybe that would be a part of the plus sections).
It would be a hell of a lot of fun. And nerve-wracking. Can I do it? I’m not so sure. They’re getting a saxophone to me so I can practice until my parents can get my sax to me. They’re even getting me a reed. Ok, they really want me to play. But what do I do? Can I even do it? I don’t know. *sigh* Someone tell me what to do!!!
